There was a silence in the hall just moments before the Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, took the stage to deliver his English speech. The ovation was for none other than the Minister Mentor, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's paramount leader for the past half a century. He walked in a stately manner and settled down in his seat after waving to the audience, acknowledging the respect given to him by Singaporeans young and old. Moments later, PM Lee entered the stage and delivered his speech.
