Current State of Healthcare in Singapore

Singapore has a well-established healthcare system and prides itself on its focus of providing quality healthcare. In education, it seeks to empower and train the next generation of healthcare professionals, as well as conduct research for advancement in technology. It has in place the necessary infrastructure and expertise for a successful healthcare system. Singapore’s world-class building and infrastructure has put it at the forefront of the race. However there is no room for complacency as this is an ongoing process of revamping and renewing the infrastructure. The standards of healthcare professionals are also maintained and there is a move to increase their numbers by both beefing up the local intake as well as introducing more foreign-trained professionals.

PERSONAL OPINION PIECE: SINGAPORE IN YET ANOTHER RECESSION?

“In Asia, with this global backdrop, China, India and the emerging markets are doing quite well but if America and Europe go into another recession, then I think China and India and the emerging economies will also be affected and vulnerable. Therefore, Singapore has to be watchful.” On 14 August 2011, PM Lee made an indication for Singapore to be alert about the economic condition in his National Day Rally speech. Barely two months later, the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s latest macro-economic review stated that Singapore’s economic growth will stall over the next few quarters before seeing a modest recovery in the later part of Y2012. How prepared is Singapore to surf through Y2012 without being badly affected?

Six new PAP CEC members appointed

The PAP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) met today and appointed six new replacements to fill its vacancies. The six were chosen through a poll of Branch Chairmen and cadres representing PAP branches, district committees, the Women’s Wing and Young PAP.
